Black marble, there are a few different types of black marble but the most famous is undoubtedly the Spanish Nero Marquina with its characteristic white veining made up of calite. The black pigments (organic carbon) have not dissolved during the process when the stone underwent the transformation and thus the white veins have remained white and created the beautiful contrast that we see today in Nero Marquina marble. When the stone is then exposed to the high pressures and temperatures, the black color has formed in the rock.
Unlike some other types of marble such as Carrara marble (white marble), Nero Marquina marble has not been subjected to such high pressures and temperatures, which is the reason why you very often see remains of fossils in this beautiful stone. Because the stone has not been recrystallized in the same way as other more compact types of marble, this black marble is also more porous and therefore a so-called "epoxy net" is usually glued under the stone slabs to prevent the stone from cracking. Perfect for wall cladding, floor applications, countertops, mosaics, fountains, pool and wall coverings and other design projects. Can be processed into polished, sawn, sanded, sandblasted, tumbled etc.
